Embrace Your Inner Artist with Confidence: Unlock Your Creative Potential with Positive Affirmations
Share
Have you ever struggled with self-doubt or perfectionism in your creative journey? I know I have. Recently, I’ve been reading The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, and it’s been a game-changer (I highly recommend this book and provided an amazon link: https://a.co/d/izWC26F). Part of the program in the book involves creating positive affirmations for yourself, and I’ve found this practice to be incredibly empowering.
What are affirmations? Affirmations are short, powerful statements that help reshape your mindset and overcome limiting beliefs. But let’s be honest—coming up with affirmations isn’t always easy! That’s why I wanted to dedicate this newsletter to helping you craft affirmations that resonate with you and your goals.
Here are some tips for writing affirmations:
- Be Specific: Tailor affirmations to your unique creative challenges and aspirations.
- Keep Them Positive: Focus on what you want to achieve, not what you want to avoid.
- Use Present Tense: Frame affirmations as if they’re already true (e.g., “I am…” instead of “I will be…”).
- Repeat Daily: Consistency is key! Write them down, say them aloud, or keep them visible in your workspace.
I encourage you to say your affirmations out loud daily (if you do them while looking in a mirror they are more powerful). If speaking them out loud feels weird then I encourage you to write (by hand) them down. Even if you do not believe the affirmations at first, stick with it. Over time, this practice can help rewire your mindset and guide you towards your goals. Affirmations work as a reminder of the possibilities within you, even when doubt creeps in.
To get you started, I’ve compiled a list for you of 30 affirmations specifically for artists/creatives. Please note that affirmations are not just for creatives, they are a tool that anyone can use to improve their mindset and well-being. While the affirmations below are tailored to creatives, the core principal of using affirmations to influence thoughts and actions applies widely. Disclaimer: Some of these affirmations are from the Artist’s Way, some are written by me, and some are from other creatives on the internet. Affirmations are meant to be shared, so use them as much as you like, or explore to find others if these don’t do it for you. Feel free to use the ones below or tweak them to make them your own.
These affirmations are for your spirit, to help you think more positively about yourself and your creative journey. My hope is that you will save this newsletter and come back to it often, to remind yourself how amazing your creativity is and fight procrastination and artist block. Some of these affirmations may work for you and some may not. Find what resonates with you and take what you need.

I truly believe that if you put something out into the universe, it will listen. By saying what you want and telling others about it, you will see subtle changes in yourself. When you start to change, the things around you change, and the universe conspires to help you achieve your goal. It is magical and cosmic and starts with just one affirmation daily.
